What do a dead werewolf, a kidnapped coroner, and an inept witch have in common? Love at First Shot. Emma Feltman is a master mage in training with one minor problem: sexual frustration has twisted her ordinarily powerful magic into an unpredictable force of chaos. Her current job assignment is the Supernatural Clean-up Crew. When a werewolf is unlucky enough to get hit by a car, Emma's crew is sent in to retrieve the body. Dr. "T.J." Jackson happens to be the coroner on duty. When it's discovered his mind is immune to magic so they can't erase the incident from his memory, they do the next best thing. They take him with them. Stashed in a cabin miles from anywhere, Emma and T.J. start things off with a bang. But can a relationship built under extreme conditions really work?

When Doctor Theodore Jackson began the autopsy on his latest John Doe, he never expected to be kidnapped along with cadaver and spirited away to a cabin in the woods. Especially not by a pretty little thing like Emma Feltman, and the two big goons with her, Phil and Vick. What T. J. doesn’t realize is that he has stepped into a whole new world, where witches and werewolves are real, and he is just collateral damage to some of them.

Once T.J. convinces Phil and Vick he is not their type, the two wolves leave T.J. and Emma at the cabin while they deliver the body to his pack for a proper burial. Emma is a witch, but for more than a year her powers have been anything but right, due to betrayal by her now ex-fiancé. When Emma lifts the binding spell from T.J., he tries to run, and Emma shoots him--in the rear.

Kaye Chambers has written a love story with a difference. It doesn’t start out as a love story, but it gets there anyway.

Emma is a witch with some issues from her past blocking her powers. She is a strong and independent woman, but when we first meet her, she is concerned because her magic isn’t working as it should. T.J. is the handsome medical examiner, who ends up in his predicament by being a nice guy. He wasn’t on duty, but filling in for his co-worker for the day.

I loved the interaction between Emma, Vick and Phil, especially when it was apparent that Vick and Phil were hoping the doctor might be their "special" friend. I loved that T.J. set them straight early on in that respect, and that Emma was able to convince him to stick around after his initial attempt at escape. The passion that developed between them was hot, and I loved that they could joke with each other even as they were growing closer. When danger came and wolves surrounded them, Emma was up to the challenge and ended up as shocked as T.J. when she realized a few facts about just who the wolves were.

This is a fun read, with lots of surprises and laughter, as well as some steamy romantic magic. I recommend this for readers who want a bit more magic in their lives.
